2027 Corvette Grand Sport Returns With V8 Power and Electrified AWD Performance

The Corvette family is getting a serious shake-up for 2027, and Chevrolet just brought back one of the most recognizable names in the brand’s history: Grand Sport. Alongside it comes the all-new Grand Sport X, a high-performance electrified version that pushes Corvette into a new era without abandoning its V8 roots.

Originally created in the 1960s as a lightweight race car built for tracks like Sebring, Grand Sport has always been about balancing track-ready performance with real-world drivability. The new mid-engine versions continue that formula with aggressive styling, magnetic ride suspension, wide-body proportions, and removable roof options.

The headline feature is the next-generation 6.7-litre LS6 V8. Chevrolet says it produces 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated standard Corvette engine yet. It’ll also become the main engine for the 2027 Corvette Stingray lineup. The new LS6 brings a larger displacement, higher compression ratio, upgraded airflow and stronger internals designed for both daily driving and extended track use.

For drivers who want a classic rear-wheel-drive sports car experience, the standard Grand Sport keeps things focused and pure. Chevrolet paired the LS6 with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, available centre-exit exhaust, Michelin performance tires, and optional Z52 track-focused upgrades including carbon-ceramic brakes and aerodynamic enhancements.

Then there’s the Grand Sport X. This is where things get wild. Chevrolet combines the LS6 V8 with a front electric motor and battery system borrowed from the Corvette ZR1X to create an electrified all-wheel-drive Corvette producing 721 horsepower. The setup adds instant front-axle torque, improved traction, selectable performance modes, and even quiet electric-only driving modes for low-speed situations.

Chevrolet also leaned heavily into heritage-inspired styling. Admiral Blue Metallic returns from past Corvette generations, signature Grand Sport hash marks move to the rear fenders to reflect the mid-engine layout, and Launch Edition models receive a bold Santorini Blue interior with custom details throughout the cabin.

The 2027 Corvette Stingray also benefits from the updates, receiving the new LS6 engine, revised suspension tuning, improved aerodynamics and updated Michelin tires.

Chevrolet’s message is pretty clear here: the Corvette lineup is no longer just evolving - it’s expanding in multiple directions at once. Purists still get a naturally aspirated V8 sports car, while buyers looking for maximum performance now have an electrified all-wheel-drive option capable of supercar-level acceleration and grip.
